The Saint Low Newsdesk.

  • The new studio album from Mary Lorson & Saint Low is scheduled for release via Cooking Vinyl on April 11, 2005. It will be called "Realistic".

  • Says Mary on saintlow.com: "Recording [of the next album] starts in January; and a Mary/Billy contribution to Fire Records' inspired effort to set James Joyce's "Chamber Music" to music..."

  • Very nice pictures from Mary's recent Sin-E show in NYC can be found at Jasper Coolidge's site.

  • The recent European dates featured a great mix of Saint Low tunes and nice reworkings of a handful of old Madder Rose tunes, as promised. Billy was kind enough to send in the London Setlist. Thanks!

  • "Piano Creeps" is out now and the first reviews and features start to appear. Check out this review @ BBC Music Online, or - if you want to improve your german - read two interviews with Mary & Billy @ Rolling Stone and @ Gaesteliste.de.

  • The London and Antwerp shows will be the only Mary & Billy shows in Europe for the time being, the tour got cut short, because they will have to work on a lengthy musical score.

  • The saintlow.com site now featured a new design. It's great, check it out! Also, the first shows of the upcoming Mary & Billy trip to Europe have been announced.

  • Mary & Billy played their first gig since the birth of their son Roman this summer, the show took place in New York recently, supporting Freedy Johnston. A german language review of the show can be found online @ Gaesteliste.de Magazine.

  • Read all about Mary & Billy's forthcoming album "Piano Creeps" on the CookingVinyl site. They plan to followthe album with a European/UK tour, possibly starting on January 24th.

  • The Billy & Mary instrumental album apparently has been re-titled "Piano Creeps" and is due out on January 20th on Cooking Vinyl (in Europe) and probably on SpinArt in the States.

  • Update from Mary (courtesy of saintlow.com): "Billy and I also attended the TriBeCa Film Festival, where a film he and I scored, "Barrier Device," made by writer/director Grace Lee, had two screenings. It was a blast to hear our music in surround sound. Wish we could make it to the Cannes Film Festival, where my song "Johnson City," and the Jazz Cannon track "Daddy Ride" will be featured in a short film showing there called "Cop Shot." Maybe next time!"

  • The May 24 Boston show has been cancelled and may be rescheduled for a later date.

  • First single off "Trick For Dawn" will be "Oh Regret". It's a (radio-) promo only item featuring three songs from the album.

  • The new album "Tricks For Dawn" is out now in the US and the UK, however the release date in some European countrieshas been pushed back to mid April.

  • Mary just announced three dates in the UK, supporting Tanya Donelly, in late February. Those shows are likely to be her last European appearances for a while, so don't miss 'em! For full details see "Live" page, also check out the new album's tracklisting in the discography section. You can hear some real audio clips from the record at the cooking vinyl site.

  • The new 11-track Saint Low album will be released on Spin Art in the States. Mary will also play a couple of shows prior to the albums release, in New York City and Austin, TX. Check out the new artist page on her US label's site.

  • The new Saint Low album, titled "Tricks For Dawn", is now tentatively scheduled for release on March 18th through Cooking Vinyl (in Europe).

  • Mary guests on the new Jazz Cannon single. See JC news for details.

  • The next Saint Low album is finally in the can. It was finished in Mid-September with Mary and Billy sharing production duties. The album is set for release around March 2002, with a Mary & Billy instrumental album to follow later in the year.

  • The October 6th Brooklyn show will be a trio appearance: Mary, Billy and Joe Myers. Sounds pretty good, eh?

  • Mary makes yet another guest apperance. This time she is featured on "Ended Up A Stranger" the new album by The Walkabouts (out October 29th on German label Glitterhouse). After touring with him last year, guitarist Chris Eckman apparently invited Mary to guest on two songs. She is featured on "Winslow Place" playing piano and on "Climb" singing back-up vocals.

  • Mary Lorson sings back-up vocals on the excellent new album by british band Seafood. The album, out now on Infectious, is called "When Do We Start Fighting" and the track in question, recorded in NYC, is the very cool "What May Be The Oldest". Apparently the guys in Seafood were shedding tears of joy when they heard Mary sing their song. Who wouldn't?

  • Saint Low will play a couple of shows in September and October, including a gig on October 6, which might or might not be Mary Lorson's birthday party ;-)

  • An update from Mary herself on saintlow.com: "Hello everyone! It's been a brief but beautiful summer here in Ithaca, and Saint Low are back at work on another album. This one will be finished in early October and released sometime around March of 2002. I'm producing again, this time with more assistance from the able Mr. Billy Cote, and some fun and exciting guests as well. Gigwise expect things to remain quiet, at least until this pesky disc is complete. Wingnut will be maintaining their rigorous gig schedule, however; check their website for details. Other projects coming up and out soon are Billy's and my work on the Jeff Klaus and Judy Hyman's soundtrack to the upcoming feature film, "The Year That Trembled," my guest appearances on the upcoming Walkabouts and Seafood records, and the Lorson/Cote instrumental album, which is in the can but probably won't come out until next summer or so. Billy and I also just completed some music for "Barrier Device," the 30-minute thesis film of UCLA up-and-comer Grace Lee, which stars Sandra Oh. All in all, we stay busy around here. Until we meet again--Mary Lorson"

  • There is a rumor of Mary playing The London Hackney Ocean on May 27, supporting Lloyd Cole and The Negatives. This date, which probably would be her only UK date this year, is not listed on Mary's homepage though.

  • Mary's tour playing with the Willard Grant Conspiracy is over, but there will be some more live shows in the coming weeks.

  • After some changes in the Saint Low band, Mary and co. hope to have their second album done by September. Hopefully it will be released early 2002.

  • Mary will play a show as part of SXSW in Austin Texas in March. On The same bill: Willard Grant Conspiracy, The Silos and many more. There's a westcoast tour to follow as well.

  • Mary just returned home from an seven week, 40+ shows tour of Europe, opening up (and performing with) The Willard Grant Conspiracy. She also supported Kurt Wagner of Lambchop in Great Britain and did at least one song with him, "I'm A Stranger Here". She debuted several new songs during the tours and played some lovely covers as well, including "Bridgette You Love Me" by Swell and "Waiting For Engines" by Madder Rose (okay, that's not really a cover version...)

  • The previously announced songwriters tour of England with Soul Coughing's M.Doughty and Miles "The Wonder Stuff" Hunt had to be cancelled. The plan for the gigs would have been that all of the acts would be onstage at the same time taking turns to play their own material although Miles and Mary are rumoured to have rehearsed at least one track together. Miles Hunt said that he hoped the tour would be rescheduled for some time in 2001, though nothing has been discussed.
